Meet Courtney

Courtney McLeod is the founder and principal of Right Meets Left Interior Design, an award-winning, full-service design studio based in New York City.

Creatively, Courtney is known for joyfully elegant, color confident interiors expressing both her client's unique tastes and her vivid, collected aesthetic. Hailing from New Orleans, she brings a sophisticated view to her designs, informed by her background and travels.

Practically, she approaches each project with a keen understanding of the significant financial investment required to execute a successful interior design project. She guides client’s on investing their resources, taking great pride in rigorous project management

Prior to founding the firm Courtney earned a business degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and pursued a successful 15-year career in the financial services industry.

Taking the tremendous skills gained through her experience and enhancing them with design-related studies at Parsons, Pratt, and the New York School of Interior Design, she confidently embarked on a new course and has never looked back.  She feels truly blessed to successfully pursue her second act and live her passion.     

Courtney resides in the vibrant Harlem neighborhood, a wonderful source of inspiration. She has lived in New York City for over two decades, but remains a Southerner at heart

She is honored to serve as a Trustee of the New York School of Interior Design and considers mentoring the next generation of designers a top priority.

Courtney’s work has been recognized as a standout in the industry, with accolades including the Elle Decor A-List, the 1stDibs Top 50 Interior Designers List, and the 2022 DDB Rising Star Award.

Her work is featured in the books “In The House: Celebrating America’s Top Black Interior Designers”, “Making Space: Interior Design By Women”, “Defining Style: The Book of Interior Design”, “By Design: The World’s Best Contemporary Interior Designers” published by Phaidon, “Living to the Max“ published by Gestanlten, and “Live Colorfully” published by House Beautiful.

The studio has been featured in print and web editorials both in the US and abroad - including Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Luxe Interiors + Design, Modern Luxury, The Wall Street Journal, and the cover of Aspire Design + Home.

Courtney’s work can be enjoyed in the HBO Max documentary series Breaking New Ground - recounting the renovation and design of a 19th-century era home in the Bershires.

Courtney is honored to serve as a Trustee of the New York School of Interior Design. She considers mentoring the next generation of designers a top priority.
