Bold Color And Fearless Glamour Enliven A Harlem Apartment

A tiny "plain white box" apartment gains a uniquely colorful and glamour-girl style.

The apartment began as a boring and tiny white box, with limited architectural interest.  A confident play of color, pattern, and scale transformed the apartment into a feminine and personal jewel box.

A huge piece of modern art defines the living area, a confident choice for such a small space that sets a playful and colorful tone.  In a truly irreverent moment, a bright pink feathered Nina Ricci runway dress was hung nonchalantly from the frame.  A mix of high and low, and custom and vintage pieces complete the design, including a shiny black patent leather custom sofa and zebra print crewel rug.

The walls and ceiling of the small bedroom were painted a deep peacock blue, which blurs the lines of the space to make it appear larger.  The rich hit of color is a wonderful accent when viewed from the main living area.  The bedroom features framed hand-painted, silver-leaf wallpaper panels.

This project graced the cover of the Spring 2016 issue of Aspire Design + Home Magazine, and was featured in the Spring 2014 issue of European design magazine Polgari Otthon.
